New...


We have entered September, folks, and wow, summer felt so quick to me - how about you? Days will get shorter and the weather will cool, and kids will be a learnin' in school. Also, we have college and professional football and soon baseball playoffs, but I digress...

I like beginnings and starting new things. It feels fresh - like a new project or experience sharpens the senses, right?

In Revelation, we get this 'new' statement from Messiah Jesus:

And the one sitting on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new!” And then he said to me, “Write this down, for what I tell you is trustworthy and true.”
-Revelation 21:5 NLT

Jesus is actively making things new and will one day bring fulfillment of the new heavens and earth. He's also doing new & beautiful things in our lives every day.

What NEW thing are you believing and praying for from the Lord today?

This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!
-2 Corinthians 5:17 NLT

When and if...and Leviticus!

For some reason, I've started studying the ancient Hebrew book of Leviticus.  It is the 3rd book of the Torah, and I find it quite fascinating.  One of the things I picked up recently is that in the first 3 chapters, all of the offerings described are 100% voluntary.  Also, those chapters contain no law from the Lord nor any condemnation. It is as if God wanted the people to know how to celebrate their gratitude for being liberated from Egyptian slavery. So whether the offering was burnt, or grain or for peace, it was all about a freewill offering to God for His amazing deliverance. I love how in those early chapters, we read the words "when" and "if" rather than "you must" or "it is decreed by the Lord." I'm excited to explore more in this book! Incline my heart...

 I wanted to share a phrase that occurs in Psalm 119:36 and 119:112: 36 Incline my heart to your testimonies and not to selfish gain. And again, 112 Incline my heart to perform your statutes forever, to the end. Incline - that is to be bent toward.  In The Message version, Eugene Peterson translated it as 'grant me an appetite.'  The Psalmist is praying that God would grant a desire to be obedient and that the Lord would turn the heart toward doing God's will. May that be our prayer today as well, "Lord, enable us to be leaning toward your righteous commands every day!" Photo by Enrico Naletto on Unsplash
