Ships in harbor




I was reading a book recently called Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway by Susan Jeffers and she included this quote:

"Ships in harbor are safe but that's not what ships are built for"
-John Shedd

I've heard that quote before and have been thinking about fear and risk and living the most abundant life we can. I wonder when I've missed an opportunity due to fear or risk or maybe a worry of failure.

Ships are meant to sail and humans are meant to be God's image bearers to the universe. God loves us perfectly and perfect love throws out fear. That begs the question, then...what could God do in and through us when we're completely confident in His love and His will?

God help us believe You can do the impossible and that through Your power, we too can by faith do impossible things!

Veraison...it's happening. What is that you ask?  Good question. Right now all around me here in the Willamette Valley, wine grapes such as Pinot Noir are changing from green to dark purple. Creation groans...

Yesterday was 9/11 - a day when all the media outlets replay the tragedy of the brutal attack on the United States.  For the first time in years, I didn't watch any of it. Instead, I reflected on the yearning of all creation for God to bring things to right soon.  I also wrote this: My heart is heavy for those who suffer today - suffer from the loss of friends and family to human-caused tragedies such as the attacks of 9/11 and natural disasters like those in Morocco. You know what? Sometimes there are simply no words. In Romans 8, the Apostle Paul writes of the reality of us and actually ALL creation in distress with a longing for redemption.
